A bucketfull of GCSEs

To Bloxham for Alice to get her GCSE results. Lucy & I collected wine glasses from Sainsbury’s in Chippy (Chipping Norton) then collected Alice. She achieved six A*, three A, three B and a C grade. Even better than she expected I think and she was dismissive of the C: “it’s only Citizenship”. Onto Banbury for a humongous shopping trip for the food for the wake. Got upset on the way home; we’d vaguely talked about a summer garden party earlier in the year and now it’s happening, J won’t be there for it.

Back home it was the last few jobs, including painting the gate (again). Mum, Carl and Rebecca arrived, and Jeremy just a few mins later. Once we’d had a chat and a cup of tea I got them doing jobs – picking up apples, a bit of weeding, sweeping the decking – and I even got Carl “Tom Sawyer” to finish painting the gate.

Later we met up at a pub we used to use quite a lot but haven’t been there for a while, The Chequers in Weston-on-the-Green. We had a super meal there. It was where yesterday’s photo of J was taken, I now realize. Carl produced a book of wedding photos, including some of ours. Ever desperate for new pictures of J, I fell upon it. Big mistake of course. Tears for the second time today, and in front of everybody too.

Just want to get the funeral over with now, I’m on edge about it all, though we are very well prepared for it.

About hodders

Husband and proud father of two daughters. Now a widower. Trying to balance between not dwelling on Juliet's death, but telling the world how much I loved her. Tricky.
